Vivantes Hearing Center Berlin is the city's first certified audiological center

The "Vivantes Hearing Center Berlin (HZB)" has been certified by the German Society for Audiology (DGA) as Berlin's first audiology center and is the only non-university medical center in Germany with this designation. With this certification, the hearing center under the direction of head physician PD Dr. Parwis Mir-Salim demonstrates the highest quality standards for the diagnosis and therapy of hearing disorders.

Among the quality features reviewed are the interdisciplinary cooperation of the specialized team, adequate technical and spatial equipment, and defined processes that will ensure quality. Audiological experts from medicine, natural sciences, engineering and education work closely together here to treat even complex hearing disorders.

Specialty certification focuses on patient numbers, research and qualification

PD Dr. Parwis Mir-Salim, Chief Physician of the Clinic for Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Plastic Surgery and of the Center for Hearing Implants:"Thanks to the expertise concentrated in our center, particularly demanding operations can be performed and cochlear implants or implantable hearing aids inserted. We are very happy to have been rewarded with certification after the combined efforts of the clinic team."

Dr. Alexander Müller, audiologist and medical physicist at the hearing center, said, "The hearing center is also at the forefront of science. In addition to our daily commitment to patients in accordance with current guidelines and directives, the further development of audiology in the clinic and in science is a particular focus of our work. Numerous methodological developments and scientific studies have already emerged from the hearing center. In addition, we are responsible for the theoretical and practical training of prospective specialists at the Academy of Health Berlin-Brandenburg and teach students of speech therapy at the Institute for Continuing Education in Nursing and Care of the Elderly in Potsdam. We also supervise doctoral students and master's theses."

Core areas of clinical and experimental research are objective audiometry and electrophysiology of hearing, everything to do with cochlear implants and implantable hearing systems, and the further development of speech audiometry. Some of the scientific developments originated as cooperation with other clinics and institutes.

Cooperation with the Cochlear Implant Center (CIC) Berlin-Brandenburg

For many years, the Cochlear Implant Centrum (CIC) Berlin-Brandenburg has been a cooperation partner of the hearing center in the care process of patients with cochlear implants.

The hearing center organizes training courses and congresses in order to create a broad public, to make audiological topics known, to develop them further and to promote quality in audiology. At the Vivantes Hearing Center, numerous advanced training courses on almost all topics of medical and scientific-technical audiology have been offered and held in recent years, such as the international ear surgery course with live operations and lectures, which has been held annually since 2005, or the audiometry course in Friedrichshain.

In addition to the qualified treatment teams and the medical-technical equipment of the center with highly specialized audiological measurement technology for examinations, a certain number of treated patients as proof of medical experience and expertise is also a prerequisite for certification.
