The Vivantes dermatological clinics in Friedrichshain, Neukölln and Spandau were certified by OnkoZert, the certification body of the German Cancer Society, as the first three-location skin cancer center in Germany according to defined quality standards with the highest distinction.
The network structure of Vivantes as the carrier of the three dermatological clinics, which are distributed throughout Berlin and ensure that patients get treatment close to their homes, enables particularly close cooperation between the players. All three clinics offer inpatient, day-care and outpatient care.
Three locations - networked competence
The intensive cooperation between the three skin clinics has grown over many years. Since 2008, joint skin cancer conferences have been held three times a year to discuss optimal treatments and compare treatment strategies. Since 2019, there have also been weekly teleconferences.
A broad treatment spectrum
All three sites offer the entire spectrum of dermatological oncology, from surgery of the primary skin tumor, removal of the sentinel lymph nodes, interdisciplinary treatment of tumor in advanced stages to aftercare.
Prof. Dr. Wiebke Ludwig-Peitsch, Head of the Central Location (Friedrichshain): "With our three locations, we are focusing on a patient-centered treatment close to home at the highest medical level. We are very pleased with the certification and it shows how successful we are with this".
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Harth, Head of the Skin Tumor Center and the North Site: "Optimal care of skin cancer begins with surgery at the Skin Tumor Center, followed by follow-up care in accordance with guidelines and, if necessary, modern drug therapy.
Prof. Dr. Uwe Hillen, Center Coordinator and Head of the South Location: "The treatment of skin cancer from surgery and fine tissue diagnostics to drug-based tumor treatment and aftercare in skin tumor centers is a great strength that we apply for our patients together with our cooperation partners in the clinics and private practices".
The center is characterized by a high degree of interdisciplinarity. The dermatologists work closely with radiology, pathology, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, internal oncology, palliative medicine, ENT medicine, visceral surgery, neurosurgery, pain therapy, with the social services and psychologists for holistic treatment and, if necessary, with other treatment partners.
The certificate was issued at the end of January 2020 and is valid until June 2023.
