The Cancer Center Berlin-Neukölln at Vivantes Neukölln Hospital was the first oncology center to be established by Vivantes. Now it has been certified by the German Cancer Society (DKG).
1,166 tumor cases treated in 2020
A total of 1,166 cases of tumor patients were treated by the nine cancer centers at Neukölln Hospital, which cooperate closely in the new Oncology Center, in 2020.
Nine already certified centers work together
At the Neukölln Cancer Center, various centers already recognized by the DKG cooperate at the hospital site: the Vivantes Lung Cancer Center, the Interdisciplinary Colorectal Cancer Center, the Vivantes Skin Tumor Center Berlin, the Gynecological Cancer Center, the Center for Hematological Neoplasms, the Pancreatic Cancer Center, the Gastric Cancer Center and the Head and Neck Tumor Center, as well as the Center for Neurooncological Tumors.
What makes the difference
Unlike oncological centers that focuse on certain organs, cancer centers look at multiple tumor entities using defined professional requirements. Synergies among the individual organ care structures are systematically positively influenced by the cancer centers, as OnkoZert also states on its website (https://www.onkozert.de/).
Criteria of the Joint Federal Committee also fulfilled
Not only the requirements of the DKG and OnkoZert are fulfilled, but also the even higher requirements of the Joint Federal Committee (G-BA), according to which at least five cancer centers should cooperate in an oncology center.
Prof. Dr. Maike de Wit, Head of the Center and Chief Physician of the Clinic for Internal Medicine – Hematology, Oncology and Palliative Medicine at Vivantes Neukölln Hospital: "Often a cancer disease affects several organs at once. At the Cancer Center Berlin-Neukölln, we can treat tumors that affect several organs in a structured manner and with proven good quality results: These include lung, intestine, skin, pancreas, stomach, head and neck and also blood cancer, as well as gynecological, brain and spinal cord tumors."
Headed by a woman
The Neukölln Cancer Center is the eleventh of a total of 128 cancer centers in Germany to be headed by a woman.
