Vivantes works continuously to provide patients with the best possible treatment. The Medical Boards play an important role in this - medical experts regularly exchange information in these committees in order to sustainably ensure the high quality standard.
The spreead of the corona virus has once again confirmed the importance of the work of medical boards, in which different specialties work closely together and consult with each other. Professor Dr. Hermann Girschick, Chief Physician of the Clinic for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at Vivantes Friedrichshain Hospital and spokesman for the Medical Board of this specialty, commented. "It was tremendously important to quickly clarify the issues surrounding medical infection risks for mothers, newborns and their family. We were able to coordinate the isolation and hygiene measures needed. This gave the pediatric nurses, midwives and physicians this gave them a greater sense of security. They could advise the families with comparable and coordinated guidelines on everyday hygiene and isolation precautions." Professor Dr. Sven Gläser, Chief Physician of the Clinic for Internal Medicine - Pneumology at Vivantes Spandau and Neukölln Hospitals, also refers to the pandemic: "Shortly after the Medical Board for Thoracic Surgery, Pneumology and Infectiology was established, the Covid-19 situation occured. How important and helpful the board is can now be seen particularly clearly."
Quality assurance and progress
For Dr. Reinhold-Alexander Laun, Chief Physician of the Clinic for Trauma Surgery and Orthopedics and Medical Director at Vivantes Neukölln Hospital, Medical Board member for 16 years and spokesperson for the last three years, quality assurance in his specialty is of great importance: "The Medical Board Orthopedics/ Trauma Surgery is essential for intercollegial exchange. Through jointly developed, applied standardized procedures, we ensure quality in orthopedics and traumatology, for example."
Anyone seeking treatment in the more than 120 clinics and institutions at one of Vivantes' eight sites can be sure of receiving the highest level of medical and nursing care. As medical progress develops, our doctors and nurses are also continuing their professional development - for example in the areas of digitalization and the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Technical innovations are increasingly developing into crucial aids: Diagnoses can be made even faster and more precisely, operations are becoming safer and therapies better. These experiences and results must be regularly evaluated and classified, because they influence strategies, investments, processes and thus all important decisions. The exchange and discussions between experts are therefore of great value.
Examples from practice, insights, impulses - all participating disciplines benefit from the medical boards. The chief physicians of the individual specialties meet at least twice a year, or more frequently depending on needs and requirements. Each individual medical specialty, or a group of several, forms a medical board, which elects a spokesperson. Representatives of the hospital management also take part in the meetings.
Berliners rightly feel they are in good hands at Vivantes. They prove this to us year after year, as around a third of them seek treatment at one of our many facilities. For this, a heartfelt thank you!
