Together against lung cancer: Lung Cancer Center at Vivantes Neukölln Hospital receives award

The best cancer treatment takes place as a team. This is what the Vivantes Lung Cancer Center in Neukölln relies on and has once again received an award for it.

The close cooperation of the Clinic for Thoracic Surgery with the Clinic for Internal Medicine, Pneumology and Infectiology as well as with Oncology and Radiation Therapy has proven its worth: The German Cancer Society (DKG) recertified the center.

This is the second center award by the DKG at Vivantes, in addition to the Vivantes Breast Center.

On December 10, 2015, the certification will be celebrated at Schloss Britz with Vivantes employees and external cooperating medical practices. In the presence of the deputy district mayor Falko Liecke and the lung cancer self-help group, the certificate will be awarded.

Chief physician Dr. Stephan Eggeling, head of the Vivantes Lung Cancer Center: "For me, the renewed certification is a special appreciation of our work. We can be proud of the long experience and good cooperation of our physicians and qualified nursing staff with the entire clinical environment."

As one of the largest clinics for thoracic surgery in Germany, the Neukölln Hospital treats various diseases of the chest and lungs, with a focus on lung cancer. Around 1400 procedures including 570 lung cancer surgeries are performed here every year. Patients benefit from interdisciplinary diagnostics and treatment in an outpatient clinic and in various inpatient areas as well as the comfort ward.

Background:

In 2012, work with lung cancer patients at Vivantes was certified by the DKG for the first time. The recertification is valid for another three years.

The undetected
There are diseases that only become known because a celebrity is affected by them. One example is oral cavity carcinoma, which recently claimed the life of the well-known actor Jan Fedder. If it is discovered at an early stage, it is usually curable.
