Vivantes was founded 20 years ago, on January 1, 2001. Today, the Berlin-based healthcare company is Germany's largest municipal hospital group. More than 17,000 employees care for around 600,000 outpatients and inpatients and residents every year.
Vivantes Managing Directors Dorothea Schmidt, Dr. Johannes Danckert and Dr. Eibo Krahmer: "Following the largest merger in the German healthcare system, Vivantes has become the market leader in Berlin and today provides care for 30 percent of the patients in our capital city. Vivantes is the heart of Berlin as a healthcare city. We want to and will continue to offer the people of the metropolitan region of Berlin care close to the neighborhoods, care and cutting-edge medicine from a single source."
Restructured and renamed
In 2001, Berlin's ten loss-making municipal hospital operations were brought together under one roof, completely restructured in the years that followed and developed into one of Germany's leading medical healthcare companies. Initially, the new group was called "NET GE -Netzwerk für Gesundheit / Kliniken für Berlin GmbH" (Network for Health / Clinics for Berlin), but after a few months it was renamed "Vivantes".
With its companies, Vivantes offers healthcare for every phase of life from a single source: the company includes Vivantes Rehabilitation (founded in 2003), the Vivantes MVZs (founded in 2006), the senior care facilities of Vivantes Hauptstadtpflege (founded in 2008 as Vivantes Forum für Senioren) and Vivantes Hospiz (founded in 2012). The backbone for these services is formed by the companies for service, catering and cleaning.
In addition, Labor Berlin was launched in 2011, an MVZ for radiation therapy in 2015, and the Berlin Education Campus for Health Professions together with Charité in 2020.
225,235 Vivantes babies in 20 years
In the last two decades, 225,235 babies were born in Vivantes delivery rooms - that's almost as many people as the city of Mainz has inhabitants. About every 3rd baby in Berlin is born in a Vivantes delivery room.
Responsibility for Berlin - also in the Corona Pandemic 2020
Vivantes is also taking responsibility for healthcare in the Corona Pandemic 2020 and treated many COVID 19 patients in its clinics. In addition, Vivantes implemented the procurement of large quantities of protective materials on behalf of the Senate and supported with "swab sites" at three clinic locations as part of the Berlin testing strategy. The emergency care facility with more than 100 places in Blücherstrasse has been operated by Vivantes Forum für Senioren since June. Vivantes has also taken over the operating role for the Corona Treatment Center Jafféstraße.
